Jack’s Walk for Autism was the event that first inspired our group back in 2004. The 2-mile family fun walk takes place on the first Sunday in October at Province Park in Franklin and includes food, entertainment and prizes for the entire family.
The idea for Jack’s Walk came about in 2004. After her son Jack, was diagnosed with autism, Sheila Benham and her neighbor, Emily Wood, came up with the idea of a walk to fund a Johnson County support group. The first walk was held in October ’04 and was a great success.
The event has grown over the years, and in 2009, there were over 350 registered walkers. Over $12,000 was raised to support local efforts in improving the lives of families affected by autism.
